TECHNICAL CONTRIBUTION

Materialise has produced several components for Sintesi project, all by means of the additive
technology stereolithography (SLA):

The dashboard
The dashboard is “printed” in its full width on a Materialise Mammoth SLA machine in a translucent PP-like epoxy (Poly1500).
The radiator
The complex radiator is produced in one piece on a Mammoth SLA machine in the recently introduced resin ProtoGen White. ProtoGen White is suited for general purpose applications with ABS-like specifications and ideal for markets that demand accurate RTV patterns, durable concept models, highly accurate parts. Air intakes are made in the stereolithography material Tusk2700. Tusk2700 is suitable for strong, water-resistant prototypes with ABS and PBT like specifications.
Control panels, roof antenna, remote controller, roof light cover and speaker grills All these components are manufactured in Poly1500 resin. This is a PP-like material comparable to engineering plastics and suited for rigid, functional prototypes in a large range of applications, amongst which automotive components and electronic housings

TECHNICAL CONTRIBUTION

Osram Opto Semiconductors delivers highly reliable SMD LEDs for all Automotive Applications. These LEDs are characterized by outstanding brightness values, high temperature stability, long life time and simple SMD processability. In the concept car Sintesi the different design possibilities with Osram LEDs are shown in the Interior and Exterior of the car. Osram Opto Semiconductors has provided the complete LED assembly including the thermal management and the electronic drivers. In the headlamp the High Beam and the Low Beam are realized with the OSTAR Headlamp. The Daytime Running Lamp is done with the Advanced Power TOPLED. In the rear combination lamp, the Power TOPLED is used. The Golden Dragon Plus is applied both in the Front and Rear position lamp.

Products for avant-garde lighting solutions have made OSRAM Opto Semiconductors a major force in shaping lighting markets and lighting applications. One such outstanding product is the OSTAR platform, which won an award from the German President as the most powerful LED solution to date. There will also be major developments in LEDs for use in terminals such as cell phones and TV and computer screens. Multicolored LEDs (MultiLED) will continue to appear on large displays such as the ones at sporting events, pop concerts and trade fairs.

With its traditional site in Regensburg (Germany), a further production site in Penang (Malaysia), a site in Santa Clara (USA) and a global network of sales and marketing centers, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors is in an excellent position to meet the challenges faced by a global high-tech company. More than 4000 employees throughout the world contribute to the success of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, producing sales of 520 million euros in the 2007 fiscal year. TECHNICAL CONTRIBUTION

Pi Shurlok’s range of experience with petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles has enabled us to make a broad range of contributions to Sintesi concept vehicle. These include calculation of the vehicle performance parameters through to design of the overall vehicle electronic architecture and electrical energy management strategy. Pi Shurlok is also responsible for the vehicle safety concept. Given the brief that it was technically feasible to locate other vehicles in close proximity, we answered the question of how best could this be practically used to enhance safety. Using accident data it was clear that driver inattention was a major contributing factor to accidents. The logical solution is to find a method of drawing the driver’s attention to a nearby hazard without undue distraction a practical human machine interface solution being shown in Sintesi. In addition we have suggested that on a drive-by-wire vehicle, available information can be fed back directly through vehicle behavior modifications to aid driver awareness.

Sintesi is the nexus of these two visions. Faithful to its mission of Future Solving partner, Reicom developed a project able to reshape the future of cars making them not only vehicles, but also media.
